Greece July 2006

We arrived to the place of Manos' family, a four story building in Athens, at 3 in the morning. We had been traveling for good 12 hours and were pretty happy to find three beds in the beautiful living room. Manos' grandparents live on the ground floor while two of their children take two floors above them for their families. Next morning we had breakfast on the balcony.

Then Manos (who apparently was not born with a beard) and Matt went on to do some serious business.

Typical roof top picture in Greece.

After some consideration we finally decided to leave for Mykonos ( yes, we had not even planned which island to go to on arrival). Below, Matt is pointing to Mykonos. All the colored islands belong to Greece except for a part of Cyprus, conquered by the Turks in 1974.

Wikipedia:

Today, Mykonos is a very cosmopolitan island, made famous the last few decades by the international jet set visitors that spend their holidays on the island. Mykonos has clean, magnificent beaches that offer everything from clear-blue waters, windsurfing, sea-side taverns, loud music and even full nudity. Mykonos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manos' mother is the loveliest person. She prepared amazing food for us during our stay in Athens.

Meet a part of  Manos' family. Going in clockwise direction we see the step daughter of Manos' grand mother sitting at her left. Manos' sister and mother follow and finally Manos' grandfather is hiding behind the flowers.

Our three beds, already a mess.

Early Thursday morning, at sunset, we made our way towards the pier where the ferry awaited us.

The ferry made two stops before arriving to its destination.

Mykonos: The Adrian sea is amazingly blue. When we arrived (in late July) we had not made any reservations for accommodation.  But through a family friend of Manos, we found a room close to the town in the background.

Would you trust this guy?

Jack and the babes at Paradise street.

Three lonely ladies watching the erotic couple.  " I just wish.....".

A picture from outside our hotel room, where we often relaxed and had few beers before heading to town.

I rented a scooter and circled the island, while the other boys relaxed on the beach with all the lovely ladies..... (the only reason for why they had a more "developed" sun tan after the trip)

Above a fantastic (probably disabled) kid is imitating the people below. Yes.... quite the sodoma. Don't ask about the guy with the interesting neck tie. Fun, fun, fun to the right.

Manos took the first, second and third of these nice pictures.

I had to go to indecent measures to get the bloody cat to stay there.

The Mosquito MASSACRE

The mosquitoes were more interested in us guys than the girls were. I think that in the end more than 180 mosquitoes showed their intimate attention to my body. Suspiciously, the other guys did not have as many bites as me and in the end the pattern was obvious to me! The bloody mosquitoes were racists!!! While leaving me with 180 bites, Jack did not have a single bite! Manos had 10 and Matt more than 50. Later, I've liked to think that my blood was (and is!) more sweet than the bitter, salty blood of my companions.

In our final day in Mykonos, we got our revenge, muhaha.

I was not the undisputed winner in the sun tanning contest.

Acropolis, Athens.

Funnily enough, on this particular rock the Greek politicians of the ancient used to discuss serious matters.

Above: Found his flag only few meters away from the Acropolis. Black refers to the color of their skin, red denotes the blood that was shed in the war of independence, green the land while white means peace.

We dined at Manos' grandmother in our last evening in Athens. She's fantastic like her daughter  (cooking wise as well)  and likes football.

zzzzz....
